A complete Guide On Various Stages In Pregnancy

Stages Of PregnancyI still remember the day when I found out that I was to be a mother – the pregnancy tests were positive. It was such a wonderful feeling that I was going to a mother, a moment that every woman on this planet would cherish forever. I felt my spirits rise up all of a sudden and mentally I was totally occupied as to how I am going to handle this and what has to be done for the next few weeks.

The first and foremost thing that had to be done was to calculate the EDD (Expected Date of Delivery) and oh I must say that I was totally exhausted before finally I came to a conclusion. Since there was an issue as to whether we have to take the LMP (Last Menstrual Period) or the date of conception for calculation and finally we decided that the ideal point of calculation would be taken on basis of the LMP.

So the feeling of a new life growing inside me was very exciting but at the same time there was this possibility that I would have to experience a touch of anxiety and apprehension imposed by the experiences of people who have undergone this and all these factors truly could have made my nine months miserable. But thankfully I could get myself to relax and get some peace of mind during these nine months since I made an effort to completely understand the stages of pregnancy week by week.

So I thought It would be a good idea to share my knowledge with the rest of the ‘to be’ mothers out there so that they can also cherish and enjoy every moment of their pregnancy. So firstly congratulations to all to be mums and I am sure each one of must be very curious to know how your little one looks like in the womb! So spend time to understand this cycle and you will realize has to how nature takes its course!

First Trimester cycle (From the day of conception to Week 12)

When you happen to miss your regular periods the first thing that you need to do is get a pregnancy test done to confirm your pregnancy. This is a stage where you need to be very cautious and extra careful because it is in this stage that there is a very high probability of miscarriage. One more important note is that this is the stage which includes the development of the vital organs of the baby as well as overall growth.

Symptoms Observed:

Morning sickness (nausea and vomiting), Extreme tiredness accompanied with mood swings, tender breasts, frequent urination and vaginal discharge.

Recommended Diet: Food that is rich in carbohydrates and protein which can include milk, curd, egg, cheese, vegetables and sprouts.

Warning Signals: Severe pain and vaginal bleeding

Must Avoid: Smoking and alcohol, reduce caffeine content

Second Trimester (13th to 28th Week)

Second Trimester

As compared to the three trimesters, the second one is most relaxing and easy going. The symptoms such as your morning sickness will gradually start to decrease and you might your abdomen starting to expand. You will also start feeling the baby movements as the baby would be around 3 to 4 inches long and trust me for the mums who are pregnant for the first time, the baby movements is such an awesome experience and something which could be shared and cherished with your hubby. With respect to the developments that take place, almost all of the baby’s facial features would have taken shape. Their eyebrows will start growing and the urinary tract would start functioning. The lungs of the baby will also start to secrete amniotic fluid.

Symptoms Observed:

Vaginal discharge, body aches such as back and abdomen pain, swelling of ankles and face, darkening of skin around your nipples, a little pigmentation on your face and most noticeable factor a line running vertically down the center of the abdomen called linea nigra.

Recommended diet:

Since you will feel better physically and mentally a diet rich in all proteins and vitamins is a must. Eat as much as you want so that you have the energy to carry your abdomen weight which has just started to expand.
Third Trimester (29th – 40th Week)

Well this is your last stage of pregnancy and kudos to you since you are about to complete the wonderful journey and the icing on the cake would be that you are just a few weeks short of holding your little one close to your heart. This is the time that you will begin to think about how you’re going to welcome your little bundle of joy and what are the ways you plan to keep the little one entertained.

At the beginning of this trimester your baby would be a foot long and weighs approximately 2 to 3 pounds. During the 36th week your uterus would have expanded such that it would touch your rib cage and you would be beginning to feel the weight in your abdomen. When the 37th week advances your baby may be along its way soon and you can expect anytime that your baby would enter this world.

There is this ultra sound scan that you might have to carry out during the last trimester to confirm your EDD as well to ensure that the baby is doing perfectly well. One thing that you must be aware of is that you may get false alarms or false pain. Don’t panic but take deep breaths to confirm that it is not false pains.

Also your blood pressure may shoot up during this trimester due to hormonal imbalances so ensure that you regularly check your blood pressure levels. In case, you’re BP remains high during the last week then get a doctor immediately and attend the problem. DO NOT neglect it.Another important thing to be kept in mind is that during the last stage of advanced pregnancy please make sure that you consult your doctor on a weekly basis so as to ensure that your baby is doing well.

Hearty Congratulations to all the new mothers and to be mothers. Each one of you should be really proud of yourselves since you have given your family members such joy and happiness of bringing a little prince/princess into the family.
