Ultrasound examinations during pregnancy may help in the detection of the chances of abnormalities in babies of the expectant mothers. But what about the effects of ultrasound waves on the babies without abnormalities? They have damaging effects on these normal babies!
The chance of a baby to have any abnormality is low. And these abnormalities can also be diagnosed without the help of ultrasound.
Evidences also reveal about the false positive results given by ultrasound. An even if an abnormality is detected by ultrasound tests, the doctors can practically do nothing to treat these abnormalities in the mother’s womb. So why pose your healthy baby at risk!
In fact, ultrasounds are not helpful in determining abnormalities.
In almost 95% of babies, those who were at the risk of Down syndrome determined by ultrasound did not have it after birth .On the hand, many babies who were not detected by the ultrasound to have Down syndrome had this disorder after birth.
Ultrasound test during pregnancy significantly increases the risk of preterm labor, miscarriage, and infant mortality too. It can also produce adverse effects such as low birth weight, dyslexia, cell abnormalities, intrauterine growth retardation, neurological damage, delayed speech development, lung damage, and increased rates of cell death. False positive by ultrasound scan may lead to abortion of a healthy fetus!
Pregnant women should not take the risk of ultrasound scan without any strong medical reason.
