Baby Acne
Any new parents will hate to see small, acne like whitehead on their baby’s skin. It is actually very disappointing to see something as bad as acne on a baby’s beautiful face, back, stomach or other parts of the body. However, baby acne or neonatal acne is a common skin condition and generally affects a newborn during the first few weeks of birth.
Causes of Baby Acne
While there are a number of myths associated with baby acne, studies indicate that they are mainly caused due to the hormonal reasons. Actually, an unborn baby’s body absorbs his mother’s hormones during the last months of pregnancy. These hormones are said to cause acne by stimulating the oil producing glands of baby’s skin.
Some others reasons that may aggravate these red bumps and whiteheads are skin-irritations occurred by spit-up milk or strong detergents used for washing baby’s bedding or clothes. Any medicines consumed by the nursing mother also might cause acne on the baby’s skin.
Treating Baby Acne
Are you too anxious about the bumps and redness on your baby’s skin? Well, you need to have patience because baby acne is an absolutely harmless skin condition. You should not use any creams, ointments, oils or lotions to treat this acne for the simple reason that your baby’s skin is too tender and should stay away from any chemical products.
You also don’t need to use any medications for treating baby acne as it is not at all safe to use any over the counter medicines on babies. In fact, you should never experiment with your little one while avoiding the use of any cosmetics or perfumed products.
Just bath your baby with water and baby soap (preferably the one recommended by a paediatrician) to keep his skin clean. You may use baby oil for massaging your little one if required.
So you need not worry about the appearance of such symptoms as they will not stay for a very long. It’s just a matter of few weeks and your baby’s skin will be as clear and stunning as you always wanted it to be.
