Baby Vitamins

When it comes to giving vitamins to your baby, all experts differ in their opinions. Some think that yes, your baby needs additional vitamins for his/her normal development whereas others may say that since your baby is healthy he/she does not need an additional vitamin supplement.

Your breast milk
contains approximately all the essential nutrients required by your baby. Hence, if your baby is feeding normally he/she may not essentially need an extra dose of baby vitamins. But in case he/she has been born with low birth weight then a supplement of vitamins may be needed by your baby.

You should not give any vitamins to your baby yourself. Let your doctor decide what vitamins you should give to your baby. Usually your baby may need to be given vitamins when he/she quits breastfeeding or formula milk.

Liquid multi-vitamins are specially considered for children who are fussy eaters and do not consume a healthy balanced diet. Gummy vitamins are not preferred for children below the age of 3 to 4 years. You should keep in your mind that adult vitamins are not meant for your babies hence never give your baby these adult vitamins.

Your breast milk is the only source of nutrients for your baby and your daily diet significantly affect the quality of your breast milk. So take care that you consume a balanced diet as well then only your baby will be benefited by your breast milk and would not require additional vitamin supplements. You can even take a multi-vitamin supplement during the course of breastfeeding your baby.

Taking sufficient Vitamin B12 yourself will fulfill the need of your baby. This vitamin is crucial for the development of your baby’s nervous system and for the prevention of anemia. If you are a breastfeeding mother and do not get adequate Vitamin B12 from your diet then your baby should be given a Vitamin B12 supplement.

If you want your baby to be healthy then you will have to provide iron, calcium, zinc and some other minerals to him/her by consuming their sources in your diet or by taking a multi-vitamin. Vitamin C and D are essential too to build a strong immune system and bones of your baby.

Too much vitamins can be dangerous for babies hence take advice of your doctor regarding the dose of the vitamins given to your baby.
