Feeding Your Baby
It is very much important to decide the method of feeding your newborn. Breast feeding is the natural and best way to feed a baby. But breast feeding may not always be a feasible option.
Today many women prefer bottle feeding to breast feeding. The method of feeding the baby will depend on the lifestyle and medical condition of the mother. If the mother has a busy office schedule she may have to opt to bottle feed her baby.
If you opt for breast feeding, then you will have to feed your baby every 2 to 3 hours for the first few weeks. Breast feeding can be uncomfortable for you in the beginning.
Try to keep your baby in a comfortable position for him so that he can latch on to your breasts properly. Hold your baby facing you in such a way that his head should be in level with your nipple.
After your baby has finished suckling place your little finger on your baby’s mouth so as to release the nipple and to avoid its pulling. You may also experience soreness in the nipples and a feeling of heaviness in the breasts. But this is only a temporary condition and will disappear very soon.
If breast feeding is not a possible option, then mothers can resort to bottle feeding. Infant formula which is commercially prepared can be substituted in place of breast milk.
Formulas are prepared in such a manner so as to provide with your baby with the right amounts of nutrients. Babies digest formula in a slower manner than breast milk. So the frequency of feeding can be decreased while you bottle feed your baby.
While bottle feeding it is always necessary to follow some precautions. The entire baby feeding equipment should be sterilized and cleaned properly in order to prevent the risks of infections for the baby. All the directions in the label should be followed exactly while preparing the formula.
The prepared formula should not be stored for more than 24 hours. The formulas should be stored in a refrigerator and fed to the baby after warming it. Check the temperature of the formula before feeding it to your baby
Thus depending on your comfort level and conditions you can either choose breast feeding or bottle feeding methods to feed your new born baby.
