Fatigue is a very common symptom of pregnancy. It is experienced by almost all women during their pregnancy period. Fatigue is mostly experienced during the first trimester. But it can appear anytime during pregnancy. Disturbed and uncomfortable sleep and change in the hormonal profile during pregnancy can cause fatigue.
The problem of fatigue during pregnancy can be combated by the following methods.
Getting adequate sleep helps in warding off pregnancy fatigue to a great extent. Try to get a good night’s sleep. If you have disturbed sleeping patterns, then try to get more sleep by going to bed early. If you have backaches or leg cramps which disturbs your sleep, then try sleeping with body pillows. You can also sleep by placing pillows behind your back and under your stomach. This provides support for the growing belly and will also make you more comfortable.
Listen to your body’s needs. Cut back on your commitments and spend time for yourself. If you feel tired during day time, then try taking a nap. A small nap of even 10 to 15 minutes is seen to help in increasing the body’s energy level. If you work at an office take a small break and try to catch a shut eye for 10 minutes.
Take proper care of your diet. An unhealthy diet is sure to leave you tired and sluggish. Eat many small meals a day. This will help in raising the body’s energy levels and will thus decrease your fatigue. Cut down on junk foods. Drink plenty of water. Avoid caffeinated drinks. Also do not resort to energy drinks as they pose serious risk to the baby’s health.
Exercise daily even if it is the last thing that you feel like doing. Go out for a walk and get some fresh air.You can also do moderate exercises like yoga and aerobics. By exercising, production of endorphins in the body is boosted and blood circulation is increased, thereby increasing your energy levels. If you are very much tired, then it will be better to consult a physician. Sometimes anemia may also be the cause of pregnancy fatigue.
Being pregnant puts a strain on your whole body. So it is natural to experience fatigue during pregnancy .By taking adequate rest and building up your energy levels, the problem of fatigue during pregnancy can be very well kept under control.
