Home Remedies For Jaundice In Newborns
Jaundice is very common among the newborn babies. When a child is born, his/her color becomes yellow during the first week after the birth. Stool looks pale and urine may appear dark. This happens because the child’s liver remains immature and hence is unable to remove extra bilirubin. But as time passes, the child’s system becomes mature and capable in flushing out extra bilirubin. So in most of the cases jaundice in newborns is temporary.
But in some cases jaundice in newborns is serious and can be dangerous. If jaundice in newborns is not treated timely it may cause seizures and brain damage. Hence proper care and treatment is necessary if your child develops jaundice. Given below is some home remedies for jaundice in newborns.
Breastfeeding is very important if you notice that your child has developed jaundice. Some women stop breastfeeding when they come to know that their child is affected with jaundice. They have the myth that their breast milk may harm their babies. On the contrary, breast milk is very useful for your child. It helps your child’s body to remove bilirubin from his/her body.
Due to lack of breast milk, many infants develop jaundice. Therefore, you should breastfeed your child after every 2-3 hours. It is recommended that you feed your child at least 8 to 12 times a day, whether breast milk or bottle milk. This is one of the best home treatments for jaundice in newborn babies.
Sunlight is another effective home remedy for jaundice in newborns. Expose your baby’s body to sunlight. The rays of the sun are very effective in breaking down the chemical bonds of the bilirubin in natural way.
