How To Boost Energy During Pregnancy

Boost Energy During PregnancyPregnancy is one time when your body is working overtime to supplement your baby’s nutritional needs. You are likely to feel exhausted, tired, grumpy and irritable.

Instead of reaching out for those energy quick fixes like chocolates and candy, try to imbibe some minor lifestyle changes in your routine to cope better.

These will keep your metabolism revved up and prevent energy slumps and exhaustion that are common among pregnant women. Here are some of the ways you can keep your energy levels soaring.

How To Boost Energy During Pregnancy

The best way to stay active and energetic is to make fitness a part of your pregnancy lifestyle. You do not have to run marathons or pump heavy weights. Mild forms of exercise will benefit you greatly. Take up some prenatal yoga, which involves stretching and beneficial yogic positions that will give relief from all those aches and pains.

Alternately, go in for a brisk walk with a friend to beat baby blues and boredom. If you are feeling too down to step out of the house, make TV viewing more productive by walking on the treadmill and catching your favourite show. This will release feel good hormones and leave you feeling peppy and happy.

Catch up on Sleep

While this is easier said than done, especially during the last trimester, it is crucial to get your 8 hours of sleep. Try a warm massage with oil or a hot cup of milk before you retire for the night.

This will help to induce sleep. Unwind with a good book or try a brisk walk in the later hours of the day. These steps will help you sleep better at night and you will wake up feeling refreshed. Sleeping will enable you to save all your energy for birthing, labour and tending to the little one’s needs after delivery.

Nothing beats energy slumps and baby blues like good old food. However, it is important to eat the right food in the right quantities and at the right time. Protein is your best bet during pregnancy. Opt for small protein snacks like cheese, almonds, chicken sandwiches, boiled eggs and milk.

These will keep you feeling full and prevent hunger pangs. Opt for complex carbs in the form of oats and whole grain chapattis. Have a slice of whole grain toast with a slice of low fat cheese to beat energy blues. Have plenty of fruits and fruit juices, which are not only filling but also loaded in essential vitamins and minerals that are needed by the growing baby.

Drink Water

Lack of fluids and water are likely to leave you feeling dehydrated. Pregnancy requires large volumes of fluids in order to flush out toxins from the body. Make sure you get in at least ten glasses of water in the form of juices, coconut water and nutritious smoothies.

Stay Happy

Clear your mind of tension and clutter. Mental fatigue can quickly sap you energy. Delegate responsibilities and let others worry. This is the time when you need all the rest and relaxation. Practice meditation and seek the company of happy people.
