Pregnant women who are diagnosed with anemia should start taking proper care of the diet they consume. Anemic mothers often end up giving birth to anemic babies who are likely to suffer from anemia for the rest of their lives.

A pregnant woman should consume 27 mg of iron every day. Beans, dried fruits, green leafy vegetables, eggs and red meat are rich sources of iron. The market is also flooded with breads and cereals that contain high amounts of iron specifically for people suffering from anemia.

When increasing dietary and supplementary intake of iron it is important to consume a Vitamin C supplement as well. Vitamin C is ascorbic acid that makes it easier for the body to absorb iron from the various iron-rich foods.

Pregnant women who are anemic are at a high risk of spotting and bleeding. If the mother-to-be experiences any bleeding, light or otherwise, she should immediately seek medical attention.
