A lot of tasks are included in baby care like changing diapers and feeding. The most difficult part is, however, getting a baby to sleep. Please understand that there is no formula to make a baby sleep. The sleeping pattern of on baby differs from another baby. The baby takes at least three months to adjust to the day-night sleep routine.
Newborns sleep for around 16 hours a day but not a stretch, though. They generally sleep a maximum of two hours at a stretch. They will wake from time to time and feed and will slowly drift off to sleep once again. So the parents must adjust to his sleep pattern.
This will continue for the first three months. Gradually the baby will understand the difference between day and night. But how will he know? Well, when the baby wakes up in the daytime make him/her used to household noises, talking and daylight.
During daytime the mother must feed the baby frequently. This will ensure a sound sleep for the baby during the night. Before the baby sleeps off at night check the diapers and ensure that the baby is comfortable in the clothes.
Since babies are used to the heartbeats of the mother, you can gently rock the baby with his head on your chest. You can even try using dim lighting in your room so that the baby quickly understands the difference between day and night. Soothing music and lullabies are also effective in getting a baby to sleep.
It is never a good idea to share your bed with the baby. Let him sleep in his crib and most importantly, the baby should never sleep on the sides or the stomach.
