So how do you relive those moments that you held your bundle of joy ever so tenderly and looked lovingly at their nimble feet and tiny toes? Many parents these days go for foot and hand imprints that help them cherish the moments that they have had with their babies and kids when they were young.
There are, many types of imprints with even gold plated imprints of your baby’s foot opted by the rich and the famous. Here are certain ideas to explore before you catch those tiny feet and frame them forever.
Foot Prints That Can Be Framed
Simple prints that can be framed are the most popular methods adopted by most. These prints do not need a specialised person to help you. They can be done by anyone right at the comfort of your home. Take a cardstock or a canvas for this purpose and paint or a bottle of ink that is non toxic.
Wash the baby’s feet and pat dry. Let someone else hold her while you apply paint or ink under his feet. Make sure that you do not apply too much. You surely want to see the foot prints and finger prints, complete with the fine lines in order to get them right.
You can do a test print on a rough sheet of paper before you do the final print. Now hold the baby’s leg firmly and press gently on the canvas sheet. Make sure he does not squirm his leg, lest your print should smudge and not come out effective. Allow it to dry and your foot print is ready to be framed!
Gum Paste Foot Prints
Gum paste foot prints too are very popular and easy to make. Gum paste mixture can be bought from craft stores. They are also available as powder which can be mixed with water before you imprint the feet. Gum paste can also be made at home if you have the patience and the time.
Instructions for Gum Paste Foot Print
Take three cups of sugar and powder it. Take four egg whites and mix them thoroughly. Now you can slowly add the powdered sugar while beating the egg white as you add the sugar. Keep mixing until you have mixed all the sugar in the egg white and blended them well. You can now add the colour of your choice to this mixture. For this, food colour can be used.
Take 12 teaspoon of Tylose and add it to the egg white and sugar mixture. Blend well by beating with the electric egg beater. Take around 4 teaspoon of shortening and coat it on your hands to prevent the mixture from sticking on your hands. Now you may knead the mixture until it forms into a smooth and soft ball without sticking on your hands. This mixture has to be left in the refrigerator in an airtight plastic bag for about 24 hours.

Next day you can remove the mixture and leave it out until it reaches room temperature. Take a metal tin and place adequate quantities of the mixture on the tin. Flatten it out on the tin surface leaving enough thickness for the feet to get properly imprinted. The gum paste is now ready for imprinting your baby’s feet.
Wash your baby’s feet and pat dry. Apply corn starch on his feet. Allow someone to hold him straight and lower him gently down. Hold his feet firmly and place it on this gum paste. Apply gentle pressure without squirming his feet. Hold for a few seconds and withdraw the legs. Allow the gum paste to dry for 24 hours before you decorate it.
Once the gum paste is dry, you can think of adding decorative elements like a border or paint the baby’s foot prints as the gum paste has moulded permanently. It can be hung on the wall as a wall decoration or adorn the showcase, occupying the pride of place.
Ceramic Tile Foot Prints
Ceramic tile prints can be used as a floor tile or as a decoration for your baby’s room. Many people make ceramic foot prints of the baby as he grows every year and use it in the back yard or entry way as stepping stones. These stones can be added every year as your baby grows. Ceramic stones can be made at home by mixing the clay and taking your baby’s foot prints. Allow it to dry and they are ready for use. When you make stepping stones, the dates can also be carved at the bottom of the imprint to know the age of the print.
Plaster of Paris Foot Prints
This is one of the most efficient ways of making a foot print of your baby’s legs. Plaster of Paris is a better medium for moulding every detail of your baby’s feet, including the fine lines and wrinkles that create a print as perfect as the original. Plaster moulds are available in the market and hence can be done by anyone at home.
Take the plaster powder that is dry and mix it with adequate amounts of water. Read the instructions in the package as to the amount of water to be added to get the right consistency.
Take a mould of your choice which can be a decorative mould with a heart shape or some other interesting shape. Pour the plaster of Paris into the mould. Allow the plaster to set for a few minutes.
Once it gets firm, hold the baby’s leg straight on top and press firmly but gently. Do not squirm as it may spoil the lines and wrinkles that give it life. Remove the legs abruptly in a strong upward direction and not sideways. Allow the mixture to dry and decorate it according to your imagination.
Baby foot imprints bring a lot of joy to the parents when they see them every time. These are memories that you can hold on to once they grow up and leave for better pursuits.
