Just think when you were a kid, how did it feel when you wore your father’s or grandmother’s glasses once in a while. You might have liked it, or you might not have liked it, but majority of the children like to wear glasses.
Some of them would even pretend not to see properly if they do not wear glasses. There are some of the difficulties and health issues that are mostly associated with the aging process. But, some times, they are found to occur in children too. Some of these are premature graying of hair, cataract, asthma, diabetes, etc.
Still recently we knew that these are some health disorders that are caused when a person gets older. But, there are several factors at work nowadays, which cause such defects in the kids too. Eye defects and the need to wear glasses is the most common and the simplest form among them.
Eye defects in children are of varied types. Some of these lay importance on the need to wear glasses, while some others can be treated with medicines. But, eye defects that prompt the use of spectacles can never be cured otherwise. Further, negligence in wearing glasses will only aggravate the situation and lead to further worsening of the conditions.
There are various factors that lead to eye defects, necessitating the use of spectacles. There can be hereditary factors behind it. There can be juvenile eye defects in some kids since the time they are born. They can be acquired eye problems due to certain external factors. There can be cases of over staining of the eyes, due to excessive watching of the television or sitting for hours in front of the computer or reading and writing in insufficient light.
There can be associated problems of decreased auditory capabilities that affect eye sight too. It is difficult to identify if your child is really suffering from any problem as such that needs to be treated immediately and whether spectacles are to be given to him or her or not. These are some of the quick tips to identify such eye defects in children.
Trace The Eye Ball Movements Of Your Child
Carefully observe the eye movements of your child. Do you see that he or she has to rotate eye balls up, down and sideways constantly in order to fix the focus to a single object? Are there any conditions that makes your child’s eyes become converged and cross eyed occasionally? This can imply that your kid might suffer from eye defects and is facing problems in focusing eyesight on a particular object.
Continuous Blinking Of Eye Lids Of Your Kid
There are times when you might see your kid blinking his or her eye lids constantly and unusually faster when seeing a movie in the television or playing games on the computer or looking at fast moving objects or those with high intensity of light on the screen.
In such occasions you might come to a conclusion that your kid probably needs a pair of spectacles. Actually, his or her eyes are getting strained in trying to focus on a moving object or objects very close to their eyes. This can be a symptom of farsightedness. Go and consult an eye doctor immediately.
Your Child Experiences Blurred Vision
Your child can often come back from school, punished and crying, reporting that he or she had a hard beating from the teacher, as the child copied the sums incorrect from the black board. The kid might even get so terrified due to regular such occurrences that she or he might get traumatized to go to school.
In such a situation, do not start beating your child mercilessly, without knowing whether there is really something wrong with the whole incident. Ask your child why he or she copied the wrong sums instead of what was written on the black board.
Try to find out if it was your child’s carelessness and lack of concentration or the kid is facing any vision problem. If your child reports that the things he or she sees things at a distance, appear smoky and blurred, instead of crystal clear, as it is supposed to be, then you should be almost sure that your child is suffering from near sightedness.
Your Child Suffers From Headaches
Your child might feel frequent attacks of headache which has a characteristic feature. It can start all of a sudden and become so intense that your child might become immobile with pain. When your child tells you about such repeated occurrences of headache, do not think it is a childish alibi.
Look carefully to find out if the headache of your child aggravates when he or she sits down to read or write and struggles to decipher smaller, typed letters and words correctly. See if he or she fails to distinguish between such smaller characters correctly.
You can further examine and find out if your child has such headaches when there is a light of higher intensity around. Is the child more comfortable in lights of lower intensity? A positive answer to such questions will denote that your child is definitely having eye defects and need a pair of spectacles.
Observe If Your Kid Has Severe Eye Problems In Modified Ambience
It might so happen that you find your child tilts his or her towards a particular direction, in a rather awkward way, when he or she sits down to read or write or even watch television or play computer games. It might even happen so that, your thousands of scolding and warning might prove total failure in an attempt to make your child change such habit.
The child might argue with you saying he or she visualizes things better that way. Do not think that the kid is making a fool of you or being naughty. He or she might be suffering from peripheral eye defect and can only focus eyesight on to a particular object when the head is tilted. The child might also find it utterly difficult in trying to see something in the darkness of the night when you can see at least glimpses of things. All these indicate there are eye problems and your kid requires glasses.
