What is that they gain with breast feeding? Breast milk contains a wide range of nutrients which is helpful for baby’s growth and development. Research studies have proved that breast milk plays a significant role especially in the development of brain because breast milk contains certain fatty acids known as DHA and AA.
These fatty acids sharpen the cognitive skills of the baby. It contains the vitamins which develops immunity in the body. Breast fed babies generally do not fall a victim to any of the disease. Apart from the above advantages, the baby develops a strong psychological bonding with its mother. It is the most economical, easy and healthy way of feeding the infant. The milk is fed at the optimum temperature.
A woman’s life is said to be complete when she becomes a mother. God has gifted women with all the good attributes of caring and she is physiologically made to take care of the babies. Feeding helps the mother’s body to secrete hormones, which cause her uterus to contract and heal. Breastfeeding reduces the chance of post–pregnancy depression and enhances mother-infant bonding. The mother gets a great sense of accomplishment and satisfaction. Research studies have proved that breastfeeding lowers the risks of developing breast and uterine cancers.
Mothers should feed their babies for at least 6 months, if she is healthy and not suffering from diseases and infections. It is highly recommended that 12 months feeding fulfills all the nutrient requirements of the baby at infancy. Even if the infants are weaned before 12 months, it should be ensured that they are iron fortified infant formula and not cow’s milk. For the first six months only the breastfeeding can work. Infants should not have anything with fluoride, such as adult toothpaste, during their first six months, whether they are breast-fed or formula-fed.
