Introducing Solid Foods To Your Baby

So your baby has turned 9 months and you are ready to introduce solids to her. Well, she has been introduced cereal already and is now all set to taste more solids. The best time for introducing solids to baby is when she becomes nine months old.
But until she is eleven or twelve months old, she is not ready for table foods. So, initially you should go slow and closely follow the chewing abilities of your baby and accordingly feed her. It is always a good advice to consult a pediatrician before introducing solid foods to infants. So speak to your pediatrician and he will recommend you a diet chart which clearly states when to introduce what.

Nevertheless, you can start with soft fruits and vegetables such as banana and cooked beans. Make sure you give these foods in bits and pieces. And wait until she shallows the food before offering the next serving.

Other foods you can introduce at this time are teething biscuits, cheese cubes, a bit of unsalted soda crackers as well as other vegetables and fruits which are soft and easily digestible. You will love to watch your baby so eager to taste new foods. In fact she becomes a good eater and is ready to taste anything you offer.

By the time she becomes eleven months, her chewing ability progresses so is her swallowing skills. Now the time has arrived for her to try some table foods, which are chopped or mashed. And she too is eager to try new tastes. If you have been bottlefeeding her, you can cease doing so.

Instead you can introduce whole cow’s milk. And make her learn to drink the milk from a cup. If you have been breastfeeding, you can continue doing so but with reduced frequency. The benefits of extended breastfeeding should not be undermined. Nevertheless, the main chief nutrition source for your baby at the age is solid food and not breast milk.

As your baby celebrates her first birthday, you can introduce her foods such as eggs and egg white. But don’t go too far. And don’t offer her easy to choke foods such as popcorn, grapes, seeds, nuts, candies etc.
