Some women have difficulty in getting pregnant naturally. This might happen due to some previous medical problem affecting them. With the development of science, most of these women can conceive with the help of fertility treatment and become a proud mother of their babies. In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is a popular fertility treatment.
In IVF treatment, the process of fertilization is brought manually by combining an egg and sperm in the laboratory dish. When the IVF process gets successful i.e. when the egg is confirmed as fertilized, it is physically placed in the uterus of the woman for the remaining phase of pregnancy.
Women who conceive through IVF often wonder what the signs and symptoms of pregnancy in this case would be. Early symptoms of in vitro fertilization pregnancy are similar to the natural pregnancy symptoms. Some of the early IVF pregnancy symptoms are discussed below.
Missed Menstrual Period – If you miss your period after going through IVF, it may be an early sign of pregnancy. This is so because your body no longer ovulates when you are pregnant. If you have a considerably lighter or shorter period than normal; it could also indicate that you are pregnant.
Implantation Bleeding –After implantation of the embryo in your uterus, you might experience light vaginal bleeding. This could be an early sign of pregnancy.
Excessive Fatigue – Experiencing excessive fatigue after doing simple activity is one of the earliest signs of pregnancy. Fatigue is caused by the surge in progesterone hormone. But a woman who goes through IVF usually takes progesterone supplement post embryo implantation. Hence, she may experience the effects of progesterone in spite of not being pregnant.
Nausea – One of the most well-known signs of pregnancy is nausea or morning sickness. If you are an IVF patient, you may experience nausea within a few days of the embryo implantation. However, all women may not become nauseated.
Tender or Swollen Breasts – Most women experience swelling or breast tenderness as an early symptom of pregnancy. Women who undergo IVF treatment usually experience tenderness in their breasts one or two weeks post embryo transfer. However, some IVF patients do not have this symptom even though they might be pregnant!
