Losing weight begins to weigh in the mind of new mums sooner or later after arrival of the baby. You might expect the weight gained during pregnancy to somehow disappear once you deliver, but this is never true.
Even after few weeks of birth you will be retaining some of the weight and still look pregnant. Feeling heavy after giving birth due to retention of fluids should go by the end of 2 -3 weeks. The pounds that remain will take time and efforts to shed off.
With patience and sincere efforts it should not be hard for anyone to regain their shape back. It should be remembered that shedding weight will take some time. The three way strategy that should positively make you lose weight is to eat and drink healthy, exercise regularly and stay stress free. In addition to these if you can breastfeed, it is not only healthy for both the baby and you, but can also help you lose weight by burning extra calories.
Eat and drink healthy
Instead of dieting and avoiding eating, one should eat healthy food and eat only when hungry. For meals eat lean meats, boneless chicken, vegetables and choose whole grain breads, cereals and pastas. Fish, milk and yoghurt should also be part of your diet.
For in between meals keep healthy snacks like raisins, popcorn, wheat crackers, and nuts. It is best to refrain from fast food meals. For drinking replace high sugar drinks with water or fresh lemon juice. Drink plenty of water throughout the day to keep you hydrated and increase your body metabolism.
It is best to start light exercise as soon as able to. But you should consult your doctor before starting exercise, especially if you had C-section. Normally you should be able to start after 5-6 weeks post delivery. Daily half an hour brisk walk, using staircase instead of lift and light exercise at home should be enough for shedding those pounds without visiting gyms.
Stay stress free
It is necessary to have a stress free mind to succeed in losing your weight. If stressful you tend to eat more and eat wrong food. To avoid stress try to sleep for at least 6 – 8 hours every night. If stressful take help from family and friends to take some time out for your own self.
