Miscarriage Treatment

The word miscarriage sends shivers along the spine of pregnant women because it is a very distressing and painful experience for them. Miscarriage generally takes place within the first 12 to 14 weeks of pregnancy. Miscarriage is caused due to various reasons. Old age, injury, stress, chromosomes abnormalities, excessive consumption of caffeine, smoking or alcohol may lead to miscarriage.

When miscarriage takes place it could be devastating, frightening and painful experience for the parents and other members of the family. Parents should be given emotional support and the mother should be given treatment, if needed. Miscarriage treatment depends upon the kind of miscarriage. In case of complete miscarriage, any medical treatment is hardly needed. The sufferer needs emotional support, counseling and rest.

When miscarriage is incomplete, it indicates that there is some fetal tissue still present in the mother’s body. In this case, it is necessary to remove the remaining tissues from the mother’s body. The removal of tissues can be done by the means of medicines or surgery. In some cases you can also wait for the tissues to come out naturally.

But if the mother experiences excessive bleeding, it is considered that the tissues inside her body have got infected. In such case surgery is needed. This surgical procedure is also called ERPC. It is safe but complications like damage of the womb, excessive bleeding, and infection may occur in some cases.

If miscarriage occurs due to hormonal imbalance, some experts prescribe drugs but such drugs may cause severe side effects; hence alternative medicines are considered useful for hormonal balance.

In threatened abortions, the fetus remains within the womb unharmed, which could be saved. It is checked by ultrasound and if fetus is found to be alive, the mother is asked to take proper rest and abstain from sex.

In case of miscarriage due to an Ectopic pregnancy, medication is recommended. Methotrexate is given for its treatment, which is a chemotherapy drug.

Prostaglandins and pitocin are also used as medication treatment in some cases. In the vagina of the mother, prostaglandins are inserted and they are positioned next to the cervix. If it doesn’t work completely, pitocin is added to this kind of treatment.

Miscarriage is very common among pregnant women. You should not panic even if miscarriage has taken place. Be optimistic. You can conceive and deliver successfully in the near future.
