Pregnancy Skin Care

Pregnancy is a time of great change. While your body adapts itself to the glories of motherhood, the numerous hormonal changes and chemical imbalances that accompany pregnancy can mess up your skin.

When this happens, it is natural to go on a spree of beauty therapies, where you would like to try every single thing that claims to get your skin back as perfect as it was.

However, caution is required here. Your skin absorbs whatever is applied on it, and, apart from getting into your bloodstream, it can affect the foetus as well. Therefore, it is vital to keep in mind some important skin care tips while you are pregnant.

Tip #1

Indulge in oils to beat dryness and stretch marks. This is natural and keeps your skin healthy. Regular application of oils such as castor oil, olive oil, rosehip oil, avocado oil, wheat germ oil, sweet almond oil and coconut oil, are great to prevent the formation of stretch marks on your skin. You will find that your skin’s elasticity is maintained and it feels soft and supple. Focus on body parts that are liable to develop stretch marks, such as your stomach, thighs, buttocks and breasts.

Tip #2

Deal with acne from within. It is not uncommon to experience acne breakouts during pregnancy, due to hormonal fluctuations. Deal with this from within by increasing your intake of fresh fruits, vegetables and water. If you absolutely have to go in for skin creams, do so only after consulting with a medical professional.

Tip #3

If you find yourself plagues by the problem of itchy hands and feet, try applying a paste of cinnamon powder and honey to your skin. This is very effective in curbing itches.

Tip #4

Bear in mind that your skin is extra sensitive and delicate during pregnancy. Therefore, avoid going in for scrubs, and use products that are mild on your skin. Harsh chemicals should be avoided.

Tip #5

It is a known fact that, if you are pregnant, you are more prone to develop rashes or suffer from skin infections. Application of the juice of carrots on any rashes or blotches on your skin, is a very effective way in which to get rid of them.
