Child birth is the most beautiful and exciting part of a woman’s life. But at the same time it is also very painful and exhausting. You are very excited to see your baby, but your body is tired and in lot of pain.
Taking a nice warm shower after birth really helps after the epidural wears off. Let your spouse or nurse take care of the new born. You must take adequate rest while you are in the hospital. Take the help of nurse in attending to the baby.
When you reach home, let your partner take care of household chores like washing, cleaning etc for first few days so that you can adjust to a new lifestyle with your baby. You can also consider hiring some domestic help for few days.
Bleeding generally stops after 2 to 6 weeks. It is very heavy at first but becomes light after few days. Consult your doctor if it suddenly becomes heavy again or if you are passing blood clots.
Make sure that you drink lots of water so that your body is not dehydrated. Water helps in reducing the swelling in your body that has occurred due to child birth process. Eat fiber rich foods so that your first bowel movement after birth is not painful.
Remember that having right nutritive food is very important for you and your baby. You can ensure that your baby is getting all nutrients by having a balanced diet.Take foods rich in iron to make up for the blood loss.
Breastfeeding your child is very important and enjoyable experience. Keep your room well lit and ventilated so that fresh air comes in. Play some soft music which you enjoy. If you are feeling low, talk to your partner. Communicating your feelings always helps. Postpartum exercises are very important as they help you in shedding the extra weight gained during pregnancy.
Follow up after the delivery should not be missed. If you had a vaginal delivery then you need to see your doctor after 2 weeks and then after 6 weeks (or as suggested).
Keep postpartum depression at bay. Take rest when your baby sleeps. Enjoy holding your baby as this is the most beautiful moment of your life.
