Safety Tips For Baby Nursery
Baby nursery safety remains the top priority once the infant gets introduced to his/her home environment. The basic concerns remain as to how to make the house child proof to avoid any kind of accident or injury, in case the baby is left alone for some time.
There are some very simple and basic ways of increasing a baby’s safety in his/her room. Here are some of these simple steps-
Safety Tips for Baby Nursery
Check the Lights
Start by checking on the lights of the room. Ensure that while the room is adequately lighted, the source does not fall directly on the baby’s face. Bright lights might be very distressing for a young baby.
Check the Crib
Ensure that the crib is free of splinters or any other sharp edges. Ensure that the child locks are performing properly and are in place. Ensuring that the crib is safe for the baby is the most important part of baby nursery safety as this is where the baby will be spending most of her/his time. Here are some more aspects of the crib that should be taken care of before placing the baby inside it.
The baby mattress should fit into the crib comfortably. Ensure that the mattress does not allow space for the baby’s limbs or fingers to get caught in between the crib. Keep the hotdog pillows under the point where the baby’s head lies. In case a child has just learnt to roll over, a hot dog pillow at the same level as that of the baby’s head might cause suffocation.
When sleeping, lay the baby on his/her back rather than on his stomach. This prevents the rate of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome or SIDS. Mobiles placed over the cribs are very good toys for infants but as soon as they learn to pull themselves up, remove the mobiles to prevent accidental bumps.

Tips to Prepare a Baby Room
Keep the drop side of the baby crib locked when the baby is left alone. This will prevent him/her from falling down. The crib should be kept away from window panes as this prevents chilling and attack by insects. This also avoids the accidental falling of babies over the window sill.
Keep Furniture Away from the Baby’s Crib
Keep all kinds of furniture away from the baby’s crib. Cabinets and dressers that have the same height as that of the crib as well as sofa backs will act as stairs for baby to crawl off his/her crib and roll on the floor. In a baby nursery, never keep furniture that has pointed edges, detachable pieces or delicate parts. Furniture with unstable stands should be removed from the room.
Use a Baby Room Monitor
Modern appliances like a baby room monitor will allow parents to keep a close vigil on their baby even when they are left alone in the room.
