Treating Diaper Rash

Diaper rashes commonly affect all babies at some time. Generally caused by soiled and moist diapers, a diaper rash irritates a baby’s tender skin. If this skin condition lasts for some days, it can become severe and spread to other parts of the body. Since Candida is the bacteria responsible for the growth of such rashes, it is essential to control its expansion. Here are some tips that will help control and reduce the diaper rash:

Change the Diaper Frequently

Wet and warm place is the most favorable place for bacteria. So you must try to keep the baby dry by changing the wet diapers at regular intervals and let the little one stay diaper-free for some time. It is also helpful to clean the baby’s legs and bottom with warm water to remove ensure cleanliness.

Use a Rash Cream

As soon as you notice rashes, you must start using an anti-rash cream recommended by your baby’s doctor.  The one with ingredients like primrose oil and Vitamin E are considered to be the most suitable for healing the irritated skin by forming a barrier between the skin and diapers or waste stuff.

Try another Diaper

Your baby might feel better with a different brand of diapers but if nothing works, you must use cloth diapers or nappies for some days. Along with being much softer than the usual diapers, the ones made with cotton also allow the baby’s skin to breathe.

Go Natural!

Stop using any perfumed items like wipes, diapers or baby lotions as these may further irritate the skin. It is better to use organic products that are completely safe and chemical-free for the tender skin.  Wipes with Aloe Vera or Chamomile extracts are soothing and gentle while fragrance-free creams and lotions can be used if required. However, try to minimize the use of baby cosmetics and other perfumed items.These tips will help you control and reduce the diaper rashes but if they still persist, you must consult a pediatrician. Follow his advice that may include some antifungal medication and a bakin soda wash along with the aforesaid precautions.
