Ways to Regain Your Shape Post Labor

Many women end up gaining extra pounds post delivery. All of a sudden you find yourself being overweight even though the size of your belly has decreased drastically. This is a very common phenomenon with most women. While you were pregnant you have been advised to eat for two people – you and your unborn baby. And the urge to eat is also greater during pregnancy. But the wrong selection of food may have led to excessive weight gain during pregnancy. Again, you may have been told to take as much rest as possible.

Taking rest and getting maximum sleep is recommended. But again in the absence of light to moderate physical – which is also recommended for healthy pregnancy – you may have put on these extra pounds. In fact, excessive weight gain can lead to labor difficulties and pregnancy complications. Even after successfully undergoing labor, you find yourself overweight and shapeless. Now that you may want to regain your shape, here are a few tips for regaining shape post delivery.

Firstly, you should keep a watch over what you eat. It is now high time to give your tasty tongue a respite. Avoid baked food, sweets, and food high in fat content. Fried foods are best avoided. Also you can spread your daily meals into smaller meals to be taken at regular intervals. Your last meal of the day should be taken at least 3 to 4 hours before going to bed. Also, a major portion of your diet should include vegetables, fruits, and dairy products. Dieting after delivery to get back in shape is not ideal if you are breastfeeding the baby. Even if you don’t breastfeed your newborn, dieting immediately after giving birth is not a good idea. Always consult a dietician before considering dieting as one of the tips for weight loss post delivery.

Now is also the time to engage in some physical activity. Walking is ideal for preventing extra weight gain during pregnancy as well as losing weight after delivery. But do not indulge in any strenuous activity. While in bed, you can practice lifting your legs and bringing it down. You can also invest in a jump rope. An alternative to these exercises is dancing. Dance to your favorite tune to improve your mood and also shed pounds.
