What Food to Eat and What to Avoid During Pregnancy

If you are pregnant, you are advised by every tom dick and harry to hog and hog. This is mainly because the food that mother eats is passed on to the child.

The baby growing inside the mother’s womb gets all the nourishment from the mother’s umbilical chord.  However there are certain types of food that you must eat and there are certain foods that you should avoid eating during pregnancy.

Following are foods that you should eat during pregnancy:

Make sure that your daily diet has all the essential nutrients such as proteins, fats, vitamins and carbohydrates.

Eat all the fruits and vegetables except the ones that your health provider has asked to avoid.

Although fresh fruits and vegetables are always considered to be the best option, you can substitute it by fresh or canned juices.

Make sure that you diet has lot of fiber in it. Fiber helps to prevent constipation among pregnant women. There are many foods that are a good source of fiber such as whole grain breads, muffins, popcorn, pasta, broccoli, spinach, green peas, almonds etc. Most of these foods are also rich in iron content which is again essential for you during pregnancy. Include some of these in your daily diet regime.

Meat, fish and poultry are considered to be good source of protein.

Make sure that you have lot of calcium rich foods as calcium is very essential for the baby. There are many foods that are rich in calcium such as milk, yogurt, cheese and other forms of dairy products.

Although not all types of cheeses are recommended to be eaten during pregnancy.

You should also include all the foods with fat content in it. Just make sure that those fats are good fats and not bad fats. Also ea fat in limited quantities.

Make sure that you reduce the intake of low calorie content foods.

Drink loads and loads to water in order to avoid dehydration.

Following are the foods that you should avoid eating during pregnancy:

Some cheeses can be eaten during pregnancy whereas some should be avoided at all cost. This is because cheeses such as Brie, Camembert and blue cheeses have bacteria that are not suitable during pregnancy.

Papaya is also not considered safe to be eaten during pregnancy in many parts of the world. This is because it is still believed in various countries that a papaya would result in to abortion. However there are mixed views, so you can have a papaya but only at you own risk.

Avoid having oily and spicy foods in your diet as it will increase your nauseatic feeling.

Avoid swordfish, raw meat, and raw eggs during pregnancy.

Don’t drink coffee. Coffee contains caffeine which suppresses you appetite.

Also avoid other drinks with caffeine content.

Avoid drinking alcohol and smoking. Never ever go on a diet during pregnancy as it could be dangerous.

Avoid junk foods or food from the road side stall.
